Stealing Glances

While out for dinner at a chinese restaurant on friday night, we bumped into friends of my parents along with their two sons. Since my parents seemed to be having fun chatting, and reading the menu proved to be quite pointless due to the rather disappointing selection, which pissed me off completely,   i kinda just sat around sipping iced chinese tea, and drew circles on the table.

It was at that moment that i realized  i was being observed by a brown eyed , 3 foot tall 4 year old clad in a blue collared t-shirt, khaki shorts, an over sized oval faced watch wrapped around  his wrists, and his hair neatly parted to the right. He was adorable and had prankster written all over him, much like a coyote and yet he still wore a suit of confidence as he paced back and forth between his parents, in an attempt to entertain himself.

I looked up at him, and flashed him one of those " i see you" smiles and instantly his face turned tomato red, his gaze fell to his feet, and he ran and hid behind a pillar. Then slowly, from the corner of his eye he began stealing glances at me and each time he noticed me smiling back at him, he'd blush some more.
He did that pretty much the whole night.

Before he left that night, i asked him for his name and then told him he was very cute...to which he blushed some more and hid behind his mother. Then just as he walked out the restaurant door, he turned and gave me one quick glance and i smiled once more.

It's amazing what little joys you can find in the simple things that children do. They have the ability to change your whole world with just a smile...or in this case a glance.
